What’s sweeter than a wedding in the summer at Belle Mer?
Summer at Belle Mer means warm breezes, blue skies, salt air, open doors, sunsets, and sparkle. Finding this wedding in January while pouring through the Snap archives brought back all the summer senses and happy vibes. I must have been saving this wedding to blog until a time when we all really need a breath of fresh air.
Gena is light-hearted and fun- as you can tell from her choice of footwear. 😉

Prepare to have your socks knocked off. Green Lion was the florist at this wedding and the floral designs are beyond the beyond.
We LOVE photos of mothers and daughters. Seriously can’t get enough.
Then again, there’s father’s and daughters. So sweet.
First Look
It’s called a first look, but maybe it should be called a first WOW.
Jared and Gena!
We walked across the street and did the first look in the marina so Jared and Gena could have the moment all to themselves. Plus, the location is so Newport!
This wedding may have gone so perfectly because Em Devaud was their planner. Just sayin’.
The bridal party and family met up with us at Belle Mer so we could knock the formal photos out.

The only tricky part about summer at Belle Mer is the lighting. It’s very bright! The building is big and white so it reflects the light and sends it bouncing all around.
We chose this spot with the ivy wall purposefully, so that we would have a dark background. With a darker background, the subjects pop! Also, we shot with the sun behind the people, so no squinting, shadows, or weird highlights. Everybody is lit evenly and it’s all very dreamy indeed.
Before the big day, we always work with our clients on a list of formal photos – all the combinations they might want. That way, on the wedding day we just run through this list and everybody is included and accounted for. This shot is a fave- the wedding couple with both sets of parents.
Having a check-list is especially important for big family groups.
